Local Firm Recognized For Helping “break The Cycle” Of Child Abuse
Leadership Raleigh Honors WebUneek for Role in Creating Video for Wake County-Based SAFEchild
6-year old web development and design firm WebUneek, was honored recently by Leadership Raleigh for “outstanding contributions and service” in recognition for its pro bono work for Wake County-based not-for-profit SAFEchild. SAFEchild’s mission is to eliminate child abuse in Wake County, where experts estimate 7,000 children are shaken, sexually violated, emotionally abused or neglected each year. The organization provides training, support and tools that teach positive parenting and communication skills.
WebUneek created a 7-minute video, “Breaking the Cycle” for SAFEchild to raise awareness of the challenges parents face in finding appropriate, safe techniques for discipline and stress management, and to highlight the changes that are possible for them and their families through programs such as those offered by SAFEchild. These changes are critical since experts believe one-third of those abused as children grow up to repeat the pattern (www.childwelfare.gov -- a service of the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services – Parent or Caregiver factors: History of Abuse). The video will be used to help recruit and train volunteers, raise funds, and as an inspirational tool in parenting classes.
“Our agency relies heavily on community support for help fulfilling our mission. Outstanding businesses like WebUneek and Leadership Raleigh have been an excellent way for SAFEchild to educate the public about our mission and to raise funds to support our programs” says Marjorie Menestres, SAFEchild’s Executive Director. “We are absolutely thrilled with the video WebUneek has produced for us.”
